Merry Christmas scribes🎄❤️,
Here’s to Day Two 🥂
Lesson Two: Do Not Ignore Your Discernment
The Lord is speaking to each of us. Sometimes we must quiet our own spirit and get still enough to hear, but He is speaking. Even when you are mid-stride, when something does not sit right, listen. Discernment does not always arrive loudly. Often it comes as a check, a hesitation, or an inner resistance that signals something is not aligned.
When it comes to relationships, do not cater to a mindset, belief, or behavior that is off simply to keep the peace. Do not go along with something or attempt to see where it leads when your spirit is already sounding the alarm.
Not every situation calls for immediate departure. Sometimes discernment opens the door for a conversation that brings awareness and change. In every case, the Holy Spirit is faithful to clarify what is required.
“I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.”
Psalm 16:7 (KJV)
In Scripture, reins refer to the inner parts, the conscience, and the inward seat of discernment and moral awareness.
This is where the wisdom of the Lord can take hold of us and steer us in the right direction when we listen to His counsel.
If alarms are going off in your spirit, do not push past them. Do not push past the voice of the Lord speaking to you.
Many times, people look up after life has become chaotic and full of confusion, wondering how they arrived there. Often, the answer is simple. Discernment was ignored at the beginning. Something felt wrong, off, or unsettled, and instead of listening, it was reasoned away. Feelings were dismissed. Insight was minimized. After this happens repeatedly, the voice of God becomes easier and easier to ignore or confuse with another.
For some, this pattern was learned early. Perhaps you were discredited throughout your life and told you were overreacting or imagining things. Over time, those voices became internalized, and you learned to override what you clearly sensed.
Guilt is often at work here. Many people remain in situations, whether ministries, relationships, or environments, that are unhealthy because guilt keeps them there. Sometimes that guilt is not imposed by another party. It runs unchecked in the mind.
Stand for truth. Stand grounded in the sobering reality of right now.
Do not measure safety by potential when the present reality is causing harm.
This is especially important with those who have close access to your life. In many situations, God is not calling you to explain, correct, or debate. He is calling you to pray. Sometimes obedience looks like a quiet pivot. An adjustment without an announcement.
Do not ignore your discernment about a person, place, or situation, no matter the attachment. God sees beyond what is visible. He understands motives, patterns, and inner workings down to their deepest parts. Nothing is hidden from Him.
“Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”
Hebrews 4:13 (KJV)
God is committed to your protection and growth. His guidance is not restrictive. It is loving. He sees ahead, and He desires what is best for you.
“Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.”
Proverbs 3:13 (KJV)
“My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.
(This is the fruit of choosing wisdom.👇🏾)
Then, [and only then], shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
(How many restless nights have come from ignoring the Lord’s wisdom? When wisdom is heeded, there is no need to fear the future. This is the promise of the Lord.)
Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”
Proverbs 3:21–26 (KJV)
This is the posture of life when we do not push past the wisdom of God. Challenges will still arise, but we can discern whether the shaking comes from our own disobedience or from a work the Lord Himself is faithfully bringing to completion. In that clarity, we are able to rest, knowing we have done what obedience requires.
